Philips Mifare
The Mifare family of cards includes Ultralight, Classic (formerly known as standard) DESFire and PROX, are based on the frequency of 13.56MHz. Frequency range, they comply with ISO 14443, most of these operate at a distance of up to 10cm with true anti-collision.

The contactless development has become very popular in applications requiring low cost solutions such as single trip ticketing although most operators have not seen Mifare as a disposable card because the costs are still reasonably high when comparing with coins and cardboard magnetic stripe cards. The shift from coin or magnetic stripe ticket operated machines has seen significantly reduced operating costs due to the readers being less vulnerable to mechanical failures or acts associated with slot operated machines like ticket and slot jams through acts of vandalism. Cash crimes against passengers, staff and machines are also minimized with the Mifare contactless solutions.

Apart from the transport applications Mifare cards are also becoming popular in applications for loyalty, events and exhibitions, stadiums and leisure parks access.
